Legal responsibilities of the Board

 

1.       Civil Law:  The board is accountable under civil law from actions that result from

       damage to persons or property.

 

2.    The board is responsible as a public trustee for all money the center receives.

 

3.    The board is responsible for contracts, grants and other legal binding obligations of the center.

 

4.    The board is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate financial records.

 

5.    The board is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate board minutes.

 

6.    The board is responsible for selecting, supervising, and/or removing the Executive Director.

 

7.    The board is responsible for making administrative policy decisions “and the Executive Director shall assist the board as needed. The Executive Director shall implement the policies as determine by the board.”

 

8.       The board is responsible for making/approving program decisions with the assistance of the centers Executive Director and staff as needed.

 

9.       The board along with the centers Executive Director and staff is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the organization purpose and the “Philosophy of Independent Living”.

 

10.  The board is responsible for making financial decisions,” i.e., approving the annual budget and amendments if applicable. The Executive Director is responsible for implementing and administering the budget”
